In 2009, we took a Spring Break ski vacation to Colorado. We discussed where we wanted to go for vacation and Kendra agreed with my choice to go skiing rather than to the beach.

We flew into Denver and oohed and ahhed over the view of the mountains. We then picked up our rental car and drove to Winter Park. We were awed and amazed at the views as we drove. Kendra went crazy with the camera.  We LOVED the views of the mountains first from Denver, then along the drive.

Once we were in Winter Park, we spent 4 days skiing. Our legs were so sore, but the mountain was amazing. There were tons of trails at our skill level. Our only previous skiing experience was at a small hill in Indiana near Cincinnati. We did one day of lessons and learned some new tricks and skills. The ski equipment was much better than that in Indiana. And the snow – the beautiful snow. It snowed every day we were there so there was tons of fresh powder. It was so much better than skiing on the hard ice in Indiana. There were also some great trails that we found between trees. Dips and turns and so much fun. When we got back to the room every night we slept very well. We were worn out.

The entire time we were there, we couldn’t stop staring at the mountains. So beautiful. We asked our waitress at an Italian restaurant about the fabulous view. She said that she was so used to it that she didn’t even notice it. I guess we often don’t notice the rolling hills and horse fences. Things common to your area get ignored. But as silly tourists, we just kept drooling over the views and taking pictures.

We didn’t feel like going out as much as I’d planned, but we still had some good food, did some shopping, and managed to somehow not injure ourselves.

When our trip was scheduled to end, there was a big snowstorm and I wasn’t comfortable driving our compact rental car through the mountains to Denver during a snowstorm. We extended our trip and I had to pay to change our flight. We drove to Denver the next day and spent that night in Denver, eating at an Outback for dinner – something I’m not fond of doing. I generally like to eat a great local restaurants. But it was next to the hotel and we were tired. When we flew back we took a trip through Omaha, Nebraska where we were upset by the security layout. We had to go from one concourse to another, and were forced to go through security again. This upset us because we had just purchased a big bottle of water that we had to throw away.

Kendra was jealous of her friends that came home with tans, but she decided it was worth it because we had so much fun.
